Genesis 4:17-4:26 – Repetition and Pace

Repetition and Pace

  • Pace – (4:17) knew -> conceived-> bore – Emphasizes the insignificance of the process.
  • Repetition – (4:20-21) “the father of all those” – The fact that these two brothers founded trades is relevant in contrast with Tubal- Cayin.
  • Repetition – (4:17, 26) vayiqra shaem “calling the name” is repeated. Cayin called the name of the city after his son. People began to call the name of the LORD.
  • Repetition – (4:1, 17, 25) “knew his wife…she bore a son” – Connects the opening, middle and ending of this narrative.
